Bullock's Oriole

We were at our ranch house a couple of weekends ago, and this gorgeous pair of Bullock's Orioles, male and female, stopped by to visit us.  They do frequent our feeders in the summer months and they found great pleasure in drinking from the hummingbird feeder!  I looked in my Birds of Texas bird book and I'm pretty sure these are Bullock's Orioles, the first spring male and the female.  Aren't they beautiful?!

Neat, huh? :)

  2. Love the birds - so sweet! I have been thinking of getting a bird book to help me identify birds with my daughter. Do you like the Birds of Texas book?

  3. Hi Beth...I think orioles are one of the prettiest birds! Your Baltimores are beautiful!

Yes, Kelsey, I *love* my Birds of Texas book. It's colorful, easy to read, and informative. I've been studying birds since we moved to the hill country and nearly everything I've learned about the birds that frequent my feeders I've learned from this book. I think it'll be a great thing to have and share with your daughters :)

  4. You are so lucky!!! I put out an oriole feeder full of oranges and grape jelly but didn't get a single oriole!! Grr... I'm going to try again next year in Feb/March. The closest I've come to an oriole here are the Baltimore O-wee-oh's in MD.

  5. Hi TS...Yes, I know. I consider it such a gift every time I see one of these beautiful birds. I'm surprised yours didn't go for the oranges and grape jelly. Usually that's a sure bet at our place to bring them out. I do hope you see one this year! Cute...O-wee-ohs!
