I love watching the sun rise, especially on cold winter mornings.  This is what greeted me out my back door this morning.

Fall in South Texas

As most of you know, fall is my favorite time of year.  For me, it's a time of reflection and gratitude for all the blessings in my life.  And I love the colors.  I grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts so I know what fall color looks like.  Although the colors of the South Texas fall are much more muted, they are in my opinion, equally stunning.  I was up and out very early one morning last week just to photograph what my neighborhood looks like at dawn at this time of year.  In my opinion, it was breathtaking.  Take a look.  (But remember, I'm not a professional photographer, I simply tried to capture what I saw.)

 

And I had this beautiful creature watching me as I crept around in the tall grass.  It's an American Kestrel and I see her often in the mornings.  I think she's beautiful.

I thought Thanksgiving Day was a good time to share what I saw that beautiful fall morning in the hills of South Texas.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Taste of Fall

...it's not here yet, but fall is coming.  And I eagerly await its arrival.

A few mornings ago when I got up (early of course), I noticed mist coming up off the river.  It's the first time I've seen that this year and it can mean only one thing:  Summer is waning.  It was an absolutely beautiful, magical morning that I had to capture and share.

There are other signs that the worst of summer is over.  The nights and mornings are a bit cooler and the days are getting shorter.  Even the light is different.  For me, this is the best time of the year and I savor every moment of it.

Summer Sunrise

It's been a long time since I've posted a sunrise photo.  But I was up and out so early working on my beds and planting that I actually watched the sun rise every one of those days.  It was simply beautiful.  To my dear friend Linda (fellow early morning person)...this one's for you :)

Sunrise over the Guadalupe

Such a beautiful sight.  When I got up this morning (early...of course), the sun was just coming up.  There was mist rising from the river and it made for the most glorious sunrise.  What a way to start the day.

Sunrise

I think you guys know by now that I love mornings...even cold winter ones.  Today I was reminded why.  This is what greeted me when I looked out the windows and over the hillside:
