Killer Homemade Pizza...

...made with all local ingredients!  It was delicious!  Harry and I make pizza at home often.  Having a breadmaker makes it so easy.  The dough comes together in minutes and it freezes beautifully!

Anyway, last week we had all these fantastic local ingredients and we thought the best way to make excellent use of them was to make pizza!  We had:

Delicious homemade, local beef sausage which I sauteed and drained

Locally made mozzarella cheese, shredded

Local tomatoes (not mine, yet, but I got these at the farmer's market) and my basil.  Tomatoes thickly slice and basil julienned

Homemade pizza dough, defrosted

And homemade pizza sauce.

Here are all the ingredients, prepped and ready to go!

First, preheat the oven to 450F with the pizza stone on the bottom rack of the oven.  Preheat the stone for at least one hour.

I rolled out the pizza dough, topped it with a little sauce and the cooked sausage.

Topped that with the tomatoes and basil

Smothered the entire pizza in freshly grated mozzarella AND Parmigianno Regianno

Then popped the whole thing into the oven and onto the hot stone for about 17 minutes and Voila...we had pizza!!  Incredibly delicious...who needs take out?! :)

 Buon Appetito!

  1. Mmmmmmm... the tomatoes look especially scrumptious! And the finished pizza photo is causing me to step away from my computer and go eat lunch.

  2. Diane, you are a TORTURER! That pizza looks so good, you just know that we all want one now...
Did you serve it with one of your famous home-made salads?

  3. Hi Beth...it really was good! I think in part because it was made with all local ingredients! And yes, the tomatoes were delicious!

Sorry, Mark, didn't mean to torture you :) Homemade pizza is really easy to make and so tasty and versatile. And Yes, I did serve it with a salad of red lettuce, cherry tomatoes and blue cheese. Yummy!

  4. Oh my goodness! How delish! Okay, so flattery is the best form of flattery so I am adding this to my list. I know to use your recipe for tomato sauce with the Muir fire roasted tomatos? Have you shared your pizza dough recipe? I am behind on my blogging since I was visiting my Mom so forgive me if you have already shared. This will be so exciting! You really liven up our menu around here! So simple yet such a wonderful pleasure to eat!

  5. I'm starving as I read this and now I'm even hungrier!! We ordered pizza last night and one of my dogs stole a few slices off the table. Grr...!! You need a recipe section to your blog. I'm a pretty serious baker. We could recipe swap. :o)

  8. Hi Kelsey :) I, too, am way behind on my blogging. It's just been a busy summer! I haven't posted the recipe for the pizza dough. I use my breadmaker to make it. If you don't have one, I highly recommend buying a breadmaker. Follow the link in this post and it'll take you to the one I use. It's cheap, $120, and shipping is free. I'm glad you like my simple recipes!

Hey TS...I'd love to recipe swap with you since I'm not much of a baker. Too exact for me :) Cookies scare the daylights out of me! Bummer about the dogs stealing pizza slices.

Hi Kacky...thank you! Thanks for stopping by. It's always nice to hear from another Texas gardener!

Yes, Cat, we've done pizza on the grill before too and it is delicious! I love the way the crust gets real crunchy! Glad you're back! I'm way behind on blogging too! Just lots going on this summer!

  9. Diane, you again make my mouth watering.
We do not eat pizza very often but if we do, we prefer the home made style.
So of course I will have to give your recipe a try. So far, whatever recipe you have published and I have tried, turned out to be very very very delicious.
The only addition to your pizza recipe I will make, is to add some mushrooms.
    Again Diane, thanks for sharing.
    Best Regards
    Paula Jo
