Summer Tanager

Look at this beautiful bird!

We were at our ranch house over the 4th of July weekend and this male summer tanager visited us all weekend long.  He *loved* the oriole feeder and the grape jelly we put out for them.  Such a gift to have this beauty flitting about :)

  4. I've seen Scarlet Tanagers but I think Summer Tanagers are out of our range. What a beauty! I agree, we are so blessed by the beautiful flora and fauna around us. Cheers!

  5. Hi Mark...Yes, I believe their plumage is more greenish in the winter. The males still have a red undertone, but not as bright.

Yes, Donna...the tanager is one of the prettiest birds that visits us in the summer.

You are dead on Toni...the little things are what make life grand!

Beth, I bet the Scarlet Tanagers are beautiful too. We are about to build a summer home in Michigan and I'm looking forward to getting to know the birds in YOUR neck of the woods!
